Pharma Services & CDMOs · Generics · OTC & Consumer-Health Brands
Shorter release cycles and steadier supply, with every batch disposition still decided by your Quality Unit.
Mid-market pharma services companies, CDMOs, generics manufacturers and consumer-health brand owners compete on reliability and cost-to-serve. Most of the margin is decided in the work between the line and the market: investigations, batch record review, release, planning, and the commercial cadence with customers and retailers. We baseline that work against your own numbers, redesign it with your teams, and build the automation and AI that make it faster. Every GMP decision stays with your people and your Quality Unit.

The landscape
Margin is decided in the work around the product.
Generic manufacturers carry most of the volume and little of the value. The Association for Accessible Medicines reports that in 2025 generics filled 89% of US prescriptions while accounting for 11.6% of prescription drug spending. Those economics push generics makers, and the CDMOs that serve them, toward the same disciplines: yield, right-first-time, cost-to-serve and reliable supply. Consumer-health brand owners face a different squeeze, from retailers, private label and e-commerce, and end up managing the same levers: service level, inventory and the cost of SKU complexity.
Quality is where throughput and risk meet. In FDA's FY2025 report on the state of pharmaceutical quality, 18% of drug quality inspections were classified Official Action Indicated, and facility withholds alone produced Complete Response Letters for 12% of the applications and supplements that needed a facility assessment. FDA lists inadequate investigations and poorly documented quality-unit decisions among the inspection citations behind those withholds. For a mid-market site, the documentation discipline that protects its compliance status also decides how fast a batch is released and how quickly a new product or customer reaches market.
That is where AI and automation now earn their place, and where they need the most care. Drafting an investigation summary, compiling an annual product review, checking an executed batch record against its master, or assembling a tech-transfer pack are document-heavy, rule-bound tasks that software can prepare well. Deciding is a different matter. We design every workflow so a qualified person reviews and signs, the Quality Unit keeps its authority, and any computerized system goes through your own validation and change control. On the supply side, McKinsey estimates AI-driven forecasting can cut supply chain forecast errors by 20–50%. Those gains reach the P&L only when the release process and the S&OP decisions change with them.
The market problem, in published numbers
89%
of US prescriptions filled in 2025 were generics, which accounted for only 11.6% of total prescription drug spending
Association for Accessible Medicines, 2026 U.S. Generic & Biosimilar Medicines Savings Report (2026)
18%
of the 1,309 drug quality inspections in FDA's FY2025 report (1,248 FDA inspections plus 61 MRA partner inspections) were classified Official Action Indicated (OAI), the most serious outcome; US sites ran higher at 21.6%
12%
of nearly 10,000 FDA applications and supplements needing a facility assessment (received FY2024 to FY2025) got a Complete Response Letter because of facility withholds; FDA lists inadequate investigations and poorly documented quality-unit decisions among the citations behind them
20–50%
potential reduction in forecasting errors from applying AI-driven forecasting to supply chain management

Where performance is lost
Release cycle time ties up cash
Batches wait on investigations, record review and paperwork long after the line has finished. Inventory sits in quarantine while customers wait on certificates.
Investigations that never quite close
Deviation, CAPA and change-control backlogs age, recurring root causes go untrended, and inspection readiness depends on the few people who know where everything is.
SKU complexity outruns planning
Long SKU tails, customer-specific packs and campaign changeovers planned in spreadsheets. Service on the tail suffers while slow movers fill the warehouse.
Commercial work rebuilt from scratch every cycle
CDMO proposals take weeks, generics bids are priced on stale cost data, and retailer plans for OTC brands are rebuilt from scratch each season.

TECHNOLOGY
Quality Documentation Workbench
Cleaner quality records in less time: automation drafts, checks and assembles the documents, your Quality Unit reviews and signs, and release cycle time comes down.
What we measure
- Release cycle time (end of manufacture to disposition)
- Deviation and CAPA aging, and recurrence rate
- Right-first-time on executed batch records
01
Investigation drafting and trending
Deviation and investigation summaries drafted from the batch record, LIMS and equipment data, linked to similar past events, with likely recurring causes flagged. The investigator writes the conclusion and the Quality Unit approves.
02
Batch record review by exception
Executed records checked against the master record and specifications, with exceptions queued for the reviewer and a full audit trail. Reviewers spend their time on what differs, under procedures your Quality Unit has approved.
03
Product review and tech-transfer packs
Annual product reviews and technology-transfer packages compiled from source systems with traceability to every data point, ready for subject-matter review and signature.
MARGIN
S&OP for SKU-Heavy Portfolios
A planning cycle that holds service levels on less inventory, built for long SKU tails, customer-specific packs and constrained lines.
What we measure
- Forecast accuracy and bias at SKU level
- On-time-in-full and service level
- Days of inventory and write-offs
01
Demand planning redesign
SKU-level statistical and machine-learning forecasting with bias tracking, using customer and retailer signals where they exist. Planners adjust by exception and own the number.
02
Portfolio and SKU rationalization
Margin and complexity cost by SKU, pack and customer, so the S&OP meeting can decide what to keep, consolidate or reprice.
03
Supply and capacity planning
Campaign sequencing, changeovers and materials tied to the demand plan, so capacity is allocated on margin and commitments rather than on whoever called last.
REVENUE
Commercial Excellence: Proposals, Bids and Retail Plans
More of the right business at better prices: faster CDMO proposals, disciplined generics bids, and retailer plans for OTC brands built on real margin data.
What we measure
- Proposal turnaround and win rate
- Price realization and gross margin by customer
- Trade spend return and retailer service level
01
Proposal and quote engine
Technical and commercial proposals for CDMO opportunities assembled from your capability library, costing models and past work, then reviewed by your business development and technical leads before anything is sent.
02
Bid and price discipline
Bids to wholesaler buying groups, contract renewals and price changes evaluated against current cost-to-serve, capacity and supply risk, with an agreed walk-away price for each.
03
Retail and channel plans
Joint business plans, promotions and e-commerce content for OTC brands, with trade spend measured promotion by promotion. Product claims stay within what your regulatory team has approved.
The diagnosis
What we look for in your batch.
A Performance Diagnostic measures these in your own systems first, so every later result is judged against the same baseline.
Release cycle time from end of manufacture to disposition, by product family and site
Open deviations, CAPAs and change controls by age, and the share that are recurring
Right-first-time on executed batch records and the main sources of review comments
Forecast accuracy and bias at SKU level, read against service level and days of inventory
Changeover and campaign losses on constrained lines
Proposal turnaround and win rate for CDMO business; bid win rate and price realization for generics
Artwork and packaging change lead times, trade spend return and retailer service for OTC brands
How an engagement runs
01
Performance Diagnostic, 2 to 4 weeks
A fixed-fee diagnostic. We baseline release cycle time, quality backlogs, planning performance and the commercial funnel from your own systems, then return three priced improvement plays and a 90-day plan. Quality and regulatory leaders are part of the work from the first week.
02
The first 90 days: First play live
Usually the quality documentation workflow or the S&OP cycle, because both release cash and measure cleanly. We redesign the process with your site teams, build the automation inside your systems, keep human sign-off at every GMP decision point, and report weekly against the baseline.
03
Then: Scale what the numbers justify
Further plays roll out across sites, product families or commercial channels. Results are reported against the original baseline in a form your board, sponsor or group leadership can audit.
Pharma Services & Consumer Health FAQ
No. Every workflow we design keeps decisions with qualified people: the investigator writes the conclusion, the reviewer accepts the record, and the Quality Unit approves and releases. Automation prepares, checks and assembles. It leaves an audit trail, and it never signs.
Validation stays with your quality and validation teams under your own procedures. We design and document the work so it can go through your change control and computerized-system lifecycle, and we support your teams through it. We do not present ourselves as a validation provider.
We work inside your environment and your access controls, and we scope data handling in the diagnostic: which customer data may be used for what, where it is processed, and what stays out entirely. Your quality agreements with customers set the boundaries, and we design to them.
With the Performance Diagnostic. At most sites the first play is release cycle time or the S&OP cycle, because both release cash and can be measured against a clean baseline. Commercial work tends to follow once capacity and cost-to-serve are visible.
Yes. For a brand owner the same disciplines run across the network: forecast quality, supplier performance, artwork and change-control speed, and the commercial plan with retailers. Product claims stay inside what your regulatory and medical teams have approved.
